Launch of Kosovo's new mine action strategy
Norwegian People’s Aid in Kosovo was pleased to join the event Launching the strategy 2025-2030 organized by Kosovo Mine Action Center and the Geneva International Centre for Humanitarian Demining (GICHD).
Director of Kosovo Mine Action Center Mr. Ahmet Sallova open the event and stated:
“Mine Action saves and changes lives. Our goal is not only to clear affected lands, but also to ensure that the cleared land is used with rural development planning efforts and is a tool to promote peaceful and sustainable communities.”
Kosovo Mine Action Strategy 2025-2030 begins with an overview of the background, brief history, a presentation of the country’s capacities, main achievements, advantages and opportunities as well as the impact of the remaining mine and explosive remnance of the war in the Republic of Kosovo. In the strategy is also presented the risk analysis and plan for strategic orientation. MS. Christelle Mest from - GICHD stated:
“With the clear strategy in place, Kosovo has the potential to be a success story within a few years, and we have the opportunity to be part of it. As GICHD, we stand with other partners and wish the mine action programme every success in getting the job done”.
We as NPA are proud to contribute for making Kosovo free of cluster munitions and other unexploded remnance as well as restoring and creating a safe environment in the current hazardous areas, enabling normal life to develop.
