The Norwegian People's Aid is deeply concerned about the recent joint announcement by the Ministries of Defense of Poland, Lithuania, Estonia, and Latvia, recommending a withdrawal from the Anti-Personnel Mine Ban Convention (APMBC). A step that puts the protection of civilians at great risk and undermines the importance of international humanitarian law (IHL).

The conflict that started in Nasir early March between the SSPDF and the White Army escalated further and resulted in the killing of a UN staff and a general during the evacuation on March 7th. Nasir was bombed from the air during the night of March 17th. The UN reports that some 50.000 people have fled due to this conflict, life saving response has had to be put on hold, and there are also credible reports of civilian casualties.

The Nuclear Weapons Ban Monitor published by Norwegian People’s Aid in cooperation with the Federation of American Scientists shows the number of nuclear weapons available for use has increased from 9,585 at the beginning of 2024 to 9,604 at the beginning of 2025.

Chanthoeun is a 35-year-old resident of Vorng village in Cambodia. Born in this village, Chanthoeun had to relocate to another province due to his father's military obligations. However, in 2013, after marrying his wife Sopheap, he returned to his hometown with a dream of cultivating cashew trees on his land.

When Moch So Kheang first started working in the village, the community was unaware of The Cambodian Mine Action Centre. "People didn’t know about us and our operations. Sometimes, they wouldn’t even let us in their land," she recalls.
